and what make you think i havn't tried one? i actually went and drove one when they first came out. a mate of mine was manager at the rover dealers and even he said they was crap.

What I generally do when I do get me hands dirty is modestly maintain it & improve it (no, don't worry, that does not involve chequer plate...........generally!)
I'm still sadly proud of my eye level, green LED indicator repeaters, my right adjacent to ear'ole CB speaker & rather slick CD player installation! That's what you get up to when you're not worrying about unidentifiable random warning lights.
It's a bit like the difference between watching Blue Peter rather than staring at an X box.

how do you get on with having a cd player in it? i had one in me maserati and the cd's skipped allover the place when driven hard, i.e all the time. so i'm thinking that in a rough tough 4x4 it would be about the same.

I'm actually really surprised. It isn't the most expensive one on the planet but rarely skips. I had a far pricier one in my late model proper Mini & it skipped like.....well, a really skippy thing. Guess my Landy springs are a tad softer than the sportier set up the Mini had (so, prob' the same for the Mas'?), but short of greenlaning with it on (wouldn't wind up the red sox like that!), no prob's.

thats wot i was thinking going over the bumpy bits would be a bit hard on it, but with mp3's you don't need to worry about skipping so i might go for one of them

I'm just doing an MP3 install on mine .... its easy, couple of speakers, woofer, amplifier and MP3 player. The hardest part is running the power to the amp .... and that ain't hard!

what worries me is where d'ya get a lead long enough to plug the mp3 player into yer poc to download yer tunes? or am i just missing something??????

i think yer missing something..you can upload them with a little thingy with a serial port plugy thingy i think. or you can play them on a portable player with an adapter that slots into the cassette part.but that probelly looks naf as you'll have a wire hanging on the cassette door
