Freelander central locking failed

Hi,

Our 03 Td4 has recently developed a problem with the central locking i.e its packed up. Using the key fob creates clicking noise from fuse box but does not open doors. Also the rear door is now permanently locked and cannot be opened even with key from outside.

Any ideas would be welcomed, also is there such a thing as an override for the rear door, as there is no handle on inside of the rear door.

Could be a faulty relay.

I know the Disco has access via the LR badge on the rear doorhandle. The FL has to drop the window before it releases the door latch though. I'll nip outside to the car in a mo and check my Haynes. I'd agree with Howardo though, if the fob is operating the relay in the fusebox it must be the feed from there to affect all doors.

The problem kind of resolved itself, after some kind hearted soul tried to beak-in to the car in a shopping mall - jamming the lock with a small piece of metal. Fortunately, the recovery vehicle man was able to gain entry with the aid of some small inflatable bags. We stopped off at a local garage who managed to remove the foreign object and replaced the faulty relay.

Anyway, the rear door now works again so the dog's happy!!!

If this advice does not work, you will need to perform the Rite of Exorcism. This is often practiced by some dealerships when faced with seemingly supernatural phenomena otherwise known as 'breakdowns'. The methods employed are usually the same but not necessarily performed in any specific order, you could intergrate some of the moves into your own ritual.

Walk around the car a number of times either clockwise or anti-clock wise mumbling specific explicits, followed by opening the front door and pulling the hood/bonnet latch; pressing all interior buttons and toggle switches sometimes helps. Open the hood/bonnet and peer into the enginebay at the motor with hatred burning in your eyes, followed by more chanting of explicits. Jiggle all unknown wires (more explicits),and twist off the washer bowl, power steering, and radiator overflow reservoir caps and peer inside (more explicits). Kick tires, slam doors and fiddle with the transfer knob, as I do. If the car starts after all this has been done, then the exorcism has been a success. If not, then it can't be possessed, but has some other electrical problem.
