Hi All. Firstly, my first post so hello to all.

I realy need some help. I've had some oil leakage from the top section of my 1.8 Freelander's engine so I took off the camshaft cover and confirmed the oil was getting past the gasket.

Changed that out and then tightened everything down only to find that some helpful soul has previously knackered three of the threads for the bolts. Funnyily enough one of these is where the worst of the oil is getting through.

Can anyone advise me the best way of getting this sorted? Do I just tap them further out and get bigger bolts, helicoil, etc?

Any help gratefully received!! Marc

Thanks for that. It's not something I've done before but been looking it up and it seems the way to go.

Cheers again

Marc

Just a thought but is the tapped depth of the hole greater than the length of the bolt?
Somtimes a longer bolt will catch the undamaged threads at the bottom of the hole.
Just don't tighten them up to much a torque wrench is your friend:)

Helicoil always, but...

Its an expensive piece of metal, maybe get it to an engineering company to do? If you take it to them, the cost might be very minimal. Its only a 5-10 minute job for a professional.

I'd avoid car garages though. Just my own humble opinion.
