Hello all

I had a problem with my 2006 2lt diesel auto freelander.
It would not change gears correctly and F 4 was displayed.
Gearbox showed approx 7 error codes majority solenoid based.
I have since had a secondhand box fitted.
Picked the car up yesterday to find F4 again displayed.
If i turned off the ignition it would clear .
It would appear again at approx 25mph and not change above 3rd gear.
Took it back to the garage code P0715 Turbine sensor not connected.
Looking at the connector plugs 14 and 10 pin . some of the wires on the 14 pin plug 2 x red and 1 x blue have been damaged when the box was fitted.
The garage say they will rewire the plug ,
My question is if the plug is rewired and issue still arises , how easy or difficult is it to replace the turbine sensor if eventually this is needed.
I have a good sensor in the original box that was removed.
Regards

Peter

It's a box strip down to get to the sensor. I have to ask. Why swap out a known box with known faults, for an unknown box with unknown faults?

It's much more sensible to simply replace the items giving the codes, rather then fit a completely unkown box, particularly an item as complex as an auto box.

Hi
I took the car to a 4x4 garage , they advised me it was the best way to proceed.Im not in a position to do the work myself , therefore a specialist 4x4 garage .
The box was not an unknown box. It was from a fully working TD4 with no issues other than some idiot crashed in the rear end.
Therefore a good box, I'm hoping once rewired the fault will clear, I was asking about the access to change the sensor as prepping for worst case.

I have read on here since the turbine sensor can be accessed with the gearbox in situ..

I wouldn't advise a customer to replace a gearbox, when it just needed a solenoid or two. To be honest, your "specialist" can't be very special, or they wouldn't have stuffed up a harness fitting the box.
However the damage is done and the box has been changed, there's little that can be done now. The later Jatco box only has two speed sensors, but the early box one had three. However as the fault is related to a turbine speed sensor, which is present in early and late boxes, it means the harness needs repairing, or replacing. If the fault is still present, then the box needs stripping down to access the turbine speed sensor. This can only be done, after the box is removed from the vehicle.

Hi
Yes I agree .
My issue now is what if the box I fitted has the incorrect number of sensors in .
My car is an 06 the box came out of an 05car .
I get it reworked and see from there .
Cheers

That's fine, as the intermediate speed sensor (The missing one) was removed around 2003, and even if an early box is fitted, the later TCM (gearbox ECU) will ignore the signal, although from memory, the wiring isn't there for the sensor in the later box anyway.
