Freelander advice needed

Hi New to this
Iam Thinking of buying a 1.8 xei freelander 98 s year 84000 miles all history & mots.
Is this a good move or bad never had a landrover.
or is it best to go newer but lots of miles.
or will i need deep pockets with both.
Can you lot help me.

What work has it had done to it? Uprated oil rail and modified gasket?

It's getting into high mileage territory for a 1.8k, but if it's had the above done it'll just be normal wear and tear items that will soon need replacing, as like any other vehicle.

Have you considered the diesel?
A similar aged diesel hippo would be fitted with the 'L series' diesel, renowned for being bulletproof, economic and very reliable- look at the freelander faults poll!
They get to 200k+ miles, are very economical (I get over 400 miles to a tank), its performance is good (dont expect blistering pace) and the reliability is good for piece of mind.
I think the petrol engines are good performers when they are working but would be worried about looming Head Gasket problems.
Every man to his own, Ive driven both, but my diesel feels unstoppable and I have faith in its engineering.

K series engine isnt regarded highly, constant head gasket failure can be annoying. No landrover is very reliable though.If buying a big car bigger engines are usually better-id get a dezul

The question in part comes down to yourself. Several years ago the AA did a report that identified that the cheapest way to run a car was to buy old and maintain it yourself, can you?
