Phew!
New to the forum and managed to work out how to post a new thread eventually!
My 2001MY Freelander GS 3-door near-side rear seat squab (back) won't release (fold forward);
On inspection with a small torch I can see that the release cable is missing where it should be attached to the release lever in the seat back, presumably it's broken;
Problem: tried for ages but can't work out how to get access to the release mechanism that is buried inside the back of the seat, and of course since it is locked in the 'upright' position, I also can't release the seat squab so it will tip forward to at least give me better access! - anyone know a sneaky trick to do this? Or otherwise send me an exploded diagram of the seat squab assembly, or suggest any other way to proceed? I have a new cable on order from Land Rover Southampton
Help please
Andy

I've also just has this problem on 2002 freelander. After some time of using pliers to pull the release cable and therefore the seat, I finally had a go at fixing it. I tried for many times to pull the cable and insert the head into the slot wothout success. The only way I found was to remove the plastic catch assembly from the back seat. It's not easy to do without breaking the plastic and it's not easy to replace either!
1. Remove the plastic insert to the catch. This is the bit that overlays the seat back.
2. Press the assembly down into the foam backing to release it so that it's not fixed to the seat back.
4. Turn it on its end and you can manouvre it out through the hole.
5. Now it's possible to easily replace the cable head back into the slot.
6. Reassemble without breaking the lugs (I broke one).
