Freelander 2 Tow bar electrics question

Hi,
I have a 57 plate freelander 2 with 13pin socket and have been using an adaptor to accept a 7 pin trailer plug.
Here's the question can i just swap it for a standard 7 pin socket without any problems or will it cause problems to the electrical system as the adaptor is temperamental most of the time ?

For a 57 plate, 7 pin would be standard, as 13 pin came along later IIRC.

I'm going to fit a tow bar to my recently acquired 58 FL2, and it'll get 7 pin electrics.

It was fitted by previous owner as he had a Caravan requiring a 13 pin apparently.
Going to retro fit a 7pin and heat shrink the other 4 cables
