Freelander 2 td4 2004 fuel pump problems.

Hello I have a freelander 2 td4 (bmw) 2004.
It will not start,it doesnt seen to be getting fuel.

Today I disconnected the fuel lines into tank under passengers seat and connected a hand pump and return into a separate fuel can, I pumped the hand pump until solid and turned the engine over and It started but I had to keep pumping the hand pump to keep it running.

Is there an Electric fuel pump on this freelander if so where is it located ??.

Does any one think it might be the Electric fuel pump ?

Had same problem with mine over 3 weeks ago

Took it to independant Land Rover Garage

Fault showing as Alarm ECU immobilising the vehicle

Had to order new Alarm ECU from LR, coming from Germany, Should've taken 10 days to arrive, Still waiting, Freelander been in garage since, no way of bypassing the ECU to un-immobilise the car.

so surely it wouldn't run irrespective of how the fuel is being delivered ? otherwise everyone could just jury rig the fuel delivery and get round the immobilser ??

Easy to check if the back one is working. wait till it's quiet all around, turn on the ignition and wait for a whirring sound from under the back seat. if you can hear it, pumps pumping !

there are two pumps, one (low pressure lift) in the fuel tank or in the rear wheel arch, and one in the engine bay (high pressure).

Just had the same with my td4 auto, just refusing to start. Called out recovery, who to be fair it was pitch black and pi**ing down, diagnosed failed fuel pump. he cracked open a union on the supply rail and i quote "diesel should be pi**ing out of here, not just spurting". Took it to my local independant specialist who I have been using for years, not just for land rovers, who then sent it to a diesel specialist.

Long and the short, No. 2 injector had failed caused excessive leak back and lack of pressure. Had all 4 injectors refurbished, now good as gold.

might also be worth getting the fault codes read to see if the cam sensor is faulty as this can prevent starting
