Hi Guys, I'm new to the land rover scene, I have just bought myself a freelander 2 commercial for my business I'm loving it and I'm slowly working through all the we bits and pieces to get it to a good standard, one of the items I require is a Cd/radio player its the 6H52-18C815-AD can anyone out there tell me if this unit is coded as the seller on eBay doesn't seem to know, I don't want to get stung buying a unit to find out it requires coding thanks in advance guys.

quite an old enquiry.?

Unfortunately, the freelander 2 infotainment unit is coded to the vin of the car.

Only an OBD scanner with coding ability e.g JLR SSD software - (but may be others), can recode a replacement using the users freelander 2 vin number.

Apart from answering a 4 year old question, it's not actually a correct answer, at least not for the OP. The FL2 basic HU isn't VIN locked to a vehicle, so can be swapped out without any diagnostic equipment. The MOST based audio system isn't VIN coded either, however as the system uses data connections to several different modules, those modules need to know what is connected to them, so that information needs to be loaded into the controller.

Hi Nodge, thanks for dropping on the thread. interesting comment as my newly acquired 2007 fr2,s radio is telling me the vin is incorrect and then automatically shutting infotainment down.?

(I still have the santorini black 2010 fr2, but have since ( our last diagnostic journey) removed the Diff/prop-shaft & rear drive shafts completely and running that car in 2wd , with flashing terrain light (theres no terrain module fitted for ecu to talk too).

Back to the 2007 fl2 (in caspian blue with a partially working haldex).....The icar scanner says there is a software incompatibility with HU?

Probably misinterpreting the exact cause, but agree JLR SDD is needed here too.

The icar landrover scanner won't programme anything, so thinking of an ebay SDD disc and interface cable.....alternatively I have an old Volvo/DICE interface and wondered if SDD might work with it, but think that's a long shot.

I have an amber terrain light too, ( 1 amigo) ...could the radio issue be related?

If the Audo system is the MOST based system, then SDD is needed to configure the various modules together. I've seen this VIN warning before, but it's not really a security thing, just a configuration incompatibility between the HU installed, and the vehicle it's installed in.
SDD should be able to configure the units, but sometimes different part number HUs from the original won't configure to a none compatible system.

That may be closer to the truth as last owner did say the HU was a replacement. I've no idea if the radio fitted is an exact like for like replacement, or MOST , though seems a tad less on buttons to the 2wd freel..no phone buttons, possibly no BT. In terms of SDD and cables, are they all much of a muchness?

A replacement HU must be the same as what was removed, or things go wrong quickly.
SDD is best used with a Mongoose cable, but I had a clone Mongoose and it worked fine.

Took me a while to get SDD to work, but seems to be working just fine.

The CD400 radio is exactly the same though.
(i can't confirm this was an exact replacement for the original)

Will SDD tell me what came fitted as stock?

I've tried configuring the audio modules....SDD even downloaded a new file.

Radio displays EPROM Updating

The problem seems to be when SDD tries verifying the VIN....5 seconds in and the configuration aborts..

I've heard ABS module only work with a clean e prom chip.? same thing?

I would like to think i'm doing something wrong and someone has successfully installed a second hand/eBay radio into their Freel2??

Brief SDD summery U0300-55 - System programming failure - is not configured

Reading a bit more the ICM VIN appears to be different to the cars vin, maybe this is our smoking gun?
