Back in mid-June 2009 I brought a LHD Freelander 2 which unknown to me is North American spec. As an ex-pat I needed to buy a LHD car for driving in Europe and I must say the car is fantastic and a joy to drive both on-road & off-road.

After I got the car I found out the power-folding wing mirrors weren't working but the car still had 2 months of UK issued warranty on it, so I went to my local LR dealer/service centre to get the problem fixed.......to cut a long story short it took 6 visits, 4 loan cars and hours lost waiting around and they still coundn't fix the problem. A new main BCM (Body Control Module) and 4 door modules were fitted but all to no avail. The problem was that the software they were using was for UK right hand drive vehicles and not North American spec LRs.

In the end LR UK gave me a 10 month written promise to repair the problem when I return to the UK next June (2010). Let's just hope they do!

What's the morale of the story........

If you buy a LHD Freelander 2 or any LHD LR in the UK to take to Europe, make sure that it is not a North American spec car.
Because if it goes wrong your local LR dealer (UK or European) will struggle like hell to program the software for the car's computerised control units or BCMs when changing or updating is required!

I wouldn't wish anyone to go through the stress and hassle that I've been put through over the past 4 weeks!
