Freelander 2.0 di turbo oil drain problems please help

Hi all

I have another problem with my freelander 2.0 di
Noticed the turbo oil drain pipe was leaking so replaced the metal
gasket, now the leak is much better but still leaking bad enough I wouldn't want to take it on a long journey, I don't know what else to do can anyone please give me some advise, I have a 300 mile drive Saturday and starting to worry

Sorry it's the turbo end of the pipe that is leaking where it bolts onto the turbo

It is most likely that the joint is distorted and the gasket isn't seating properly.

We used to get that on some big Holset turbochargers on Scania 14 litre V8's, we had to straighten the flange up true before refitting.

I'd suggest that you take it off and have a close look at both mating flanges and see if they align correctly without the gasket.

You may also find that loosening the inlet flange to the turbo and taking off the air outlet pipe from the turbo will allow the whole assembly to move into a slightly better place.

You should not have ANY leakage at all.

Thank you for your reply, I didn't have any problems refitting the pipe back only took about half hour from start to finish I can see this coming back to haunt me lol

Just updating you, the turbo drain pipe was exactly what you said but only on the flange of pipe the turbo was fine.
