Hi Everyone,

So after a beautiful 6 months of trouble free motoring it won't start.

On a trip to put fuel in, the engine cut out and will not start (it was low but the fuel warning light wasn't on and I have since put more in). The engine cranks and the AA informed me that there was low pressure in the HPFP. I have never done any mechanical work but as this isn't my daily driver I am going to give it a go (maybe).

I have read a lot about the regulator O-rings on the HPFP, would this apply and be a good place to start? As the mileage is so low would the o rings degrade with age?

Best not to fully trust what you have been told. Really you need live data to compare with what low and high pressure pumps should be. It's on here somewhere, quite a lot. Nodge will know figures.
I think your low pressure pump will be in the tank.
If you don't have a reader then it will be a good investment for future.

If the engine was running and cut out, then it's unlikely to be the HP fuel regulator O ring.

It's possible it's one of the two low pressure fuel pumps. There's one fuel pump in the tank, and another in the engine bay, below the fuse box. If either low pressure fuel pump fails, then there won't be enough fuel pressure in the low rail to run the engine.

If you can find a suitable code reader (it's not OBD2 compliant) then you could check both fuel rail pressures.
The low pressure needs to exceed 300kpa, preferably over 350kpa.
The high pressure rail needs to exceed 22,000kpa while cranking over, and will normally be above 26,000kpa at idle.

It is indeed. I guess old diesel didn't help the pump. Be interesting to see the filter. Pump may have been OK??!
