Freelander 1.8 Head Gaskets

Hello Everyone

I have just bought a 1.8 Freelander ES 2001 (Y Reg) 45K miles, from a main dealer.
Now, I am absolutely delighted with it but have been reading on the Web that there are some problems with the Head Gasket on this engine.
I assume that it effects pre 2000 facelift models as these seem to be the only ones posted on the web with this problem.

I have a Landrover warrenty so would be covered if something went wong, but could anyone tell me if i have need to worry and what should i look out for.

Hi finnster, not realy up to speed with freelander's but usual signs are, Water in oil, oil in water, over heating, boiling over etc just to name a few.
anyway good luck with the new motor, and enjoy Landyzone..

Thanks for that, is it as big a problem as everyone says? i have seen a lot of complaints about this, but i suppose the only time people feel the need to write about cars is when they have complaints!!

sorry to say it does affect all 1.8s but later ones have had the mod on the thermostat already done,my advise is keep the warranty going you wont regret it.
