Freelander 1 2.0d gear stick wobble and stuck in gear

Hi all i have a freelander 1 2.0 diesel that has had a wobbly gear stick for abut a month then all of a sudden yestarday while driving the stick went completly free and stuck in gear. Ive looked under and nothing has broken. Where the link rod goes in the gearbox u can hear it sound like selecting gears but stays stuck in the one gear. Is this a easy fix or a gearbox out job. Any advice will be much apprisiated
