Morning.
So I have a 2012 TD4 Freeland 2 automatic. It's been faultless up until now, except for a gremlin in the rear tailgate lock.
It's started leaking coolant now though, about 500ml or so every couple of days. No undue water vapour when it starts or anything like that, but it is leaving a puddle of coolant wherever it's parked.
There's no oil in the coolant and no mayonnaise in the oil, so I'm thinking this is unlikely to be a head gasket.
Having made an initial inspection the leak appears to be somewhere at the rear of the engine. I took the sump guard off and there's a trail of pink residue from the coolant running of the bottom of the turbo and on various other components above the turbo.
Attached is a photo, which probably isn't very clear, but it's pretty awkward to see anything up there. The photo is taken from underneath the rear of the engine looking upwards.
As you can see, there's a pretty clear drip of coolant and plenty of pink residue.
So, I'm looking for ideas as to what this can be. There doesn't seem to be any sign of coolant running down the rear of the engine block so again I'm thinking this isn't likely to be a head gasket.
Is this likely to be the EGR cooler?
I'm not familiar with the anatomy of the freelander 2 engine, but at a rough guess I'd say that the EGR itself is at the front of the engine, with an insulated pipe running over the top right hand side of the engine bay to the rear, which makes me think what I'm looking at is an EGR cooler.
Any ideas will be very welcome.
Thanks
