My wife reversed into a wall she didn't see ( that's not the td4 problem!!) and broke the lens of the right indicator and brake light.

We are doing a long drive tomorrow so don't have time to get a new one, but the issue is that the indicator or brake light/taillight is not working. I've replaced the bulbs and nothing.

Why would this not be working just because the lens is broke.

She didn't hit the wall at speed. There is just a small scrape on the bumper.

Any advice how I couldn't get the lights going again tonight for early start tomorrow would be appreciated.

Thanks

I know there are on various cars - sort of a safety thing so you've still got 1 light if the other has blown I suppose.

Looking at Rave, the RH tail lamp is on fuse 1 while the LH tail lamp is on fuse 7. RH Indicator on fuse 10 while LH indicator on fuse 6. It appears though that the brake lights are not individually fused.

So if you're RH lights have all gone, it won't be the fuse.

Presumably therefore it is either the light fitting or the earth point. If it is just the cluster, then suspect the fitting. If the high mounted brake light is also not working, then it will be the earthing point as they share the same one.

That's my best guess !

Have a look and see if any of the connectors or a earth wire have come loose or are loose

Unless Mrs Davidboy really whacked the wall, I can't see it being the (shared) earthing connector as its pretty safely tucked away, from Rave...

... but it could be the earth from the fitting.

Knowing what year the car is, would be useful. The pre-facelift bumper can deflect a long way without showing any damage. This can allow the wires to be pinched between the rear cross member and light unit. The facelift is slightly different, as the bumper doesn't need to deflect far before cable pinching can happen.
So the best thing for the OP to do is remove the light in question and check for wiring damage, particularly the black earth wire.

My guess is the cluster PCB got cracked on the earth track, use a multimeter to test resistance between the cluster connector earth pin and any bulb socket earth point, my guess is you will get nothing (well ok something, you know what I mean)
