hi i have free wheeling hubs can yu tell me how i use them i know its prob a stupid question but first time i have ever had them on a landy

there is a disengage sign and an engage sign engage free wheeling hubs when u want four wheel drive by turning the bolt in the center of the hubs just be sure to disengage when u have taken the car out of four wheel drive

One of the "Marmites" of the series Landrover world ....Some folks love 'em some hate 'em .

In short with them "disengaged" or "unlocked"
even with four wheel drive engaged (yellow lever down for high ratio four wheel drive OR red lever pulled back for Low ratio four wheel drive) you wont have proper four wheel drive .
With them "Engaged" or "locked" you will have proper four wheel drive as the axle will act as a normal series axle.

Some folks swear that they get an appreciable saving fuel wise as the axle internals are not being rotated as you drive thus saving fuel and tyre wear etc ....at the cost of wear on some of the internal components as they are not being rotated and thus fully lubricated,AND leaks from them .

Horses for courses try them and see how you go (my FFR came with them fitted ...never noticed any appreciable fuel savings etc despite extensive tests ) They do make handy footrests thought for delving into the engine bay

if i leave them engaged will it do any harm i wont be doing too many miles in it, its going to be just a weekend toy might play about abit with them when i get more use to her
thanks for your replys

No harm at all in leaving FWH engaged ....they just act as a "standard" series landrover front axle does ....everything inside gets turned by the action of driving along (drive shafts/front prop etc ) and thus the oil lubricates the top railko bush etc ...which is why you are supposed to engage them every few hundred miles IF you drive with them in free wheel/disengaged .
