1) When turning in tight circles or slow 90 deg tight turns my freelander sort of feels like it binding sort of pulling the handbrake half on, soon as i straighten up is free again, sort of thing is this normal ??

2) when i sort of labour the engine slightly in second gear ( ive a quite tight slow 2nd gear corner coming up my street i drop from 3rd to 2nd take the corner and pull up bank from say 15mph to 25mph) i seem to get what sounds like allot of transmission sort of chatter or sounds like something loose etc is this normal..

3) When i took my battery off and reconnected the rear window motors all the way down

Sorry if these are bull****e questions im new to freelanders and after trying to fit a new manifold gasket on the exhaust im sick already :p

Your VCU is past it's best and could be damaging the IRD - possibly the noise you hear.

Make sure you have matched Tyres with newer ones on the back.

Get a new VCU - Bell Engineering are good about £250 - of you don't it sounds like you are going to break the transmission

There is loads on this forum about it - search.

Electrical - someone else for that.

The tightness , binding, and chatter you ask about sounds like it's a vcu problem - but there are lots of people on here with more experience of them than me - just wait and see.

As for the rear tailgate glass coming down that is what it is meant to do after the battery has been disconnected. This is to make sure it is in LandRover speak 're-calibrated' - no doubt this is important and connected to the need for the glass to descend a little to allow the door to open.

It is all reset by raising the glass by using the normal switch.
Be careful to do it in one go or it will give you a 'beep' signal and you will have to start again.

Don't be sick - we all have to learn, and getting grease under the fingernails is part of the fun of owning any LandRover - enjoy.

A 'tight' feeling on full lock is normal, my Hippo with recon IRD and VCU plus four new tyres feels like the brakes go on at low speed full lock, like parking.
If it also makes noises like clunks while doing this then thats bad....
If you can, check the VCU (Big donught shaped round steel bit in the middle of the propshaft to the rear wheels) after a 5 mile ish journey and see if it is warm to touch, ideally it should be cool. Excess heat means it is working far to hard, this can be mis-matched tyres or a faulty VCU. You MUST match the tyres and always fit new ones to the rear or ideally new all round, failure to do so can kill the VCU followed by the IRD and rear diff. Do a search for the mentioned parts and read the horror stories!!!! :)
Mines fixed and runs sweet, cost 1k for new IRD/VCU though.....

it doesnt make any noises at all when slow cornering or parking in the tight bit i mention it sometimes sqeaks the tyres a bit though, front tyres look a bit newer than rears to be fair unless rears wear first and all 4 were new once over before i got it etc...

Looking back at your previous posts I would imagine that a 52 reg would have covered more than 70,000 miles so it looks like the VCU is due a change (presuming that it's still original) far better to change now than wait for the IRD or Diff to fall to bits.

If the tyres squeal then it sounds like the VCU is buggered.
Get a recon one and fit matching tyres, never ever have newer tyres on the front!!!
