Had a look at a few 300TDi's, and this one seems in good nick, 110000 on the clock, three door, but very tidy, slight rust under the mat in the rear, but I have decided to join you lads and go for it. I havent sorted the price yet, but will test driving sunday morn, and if that goes well then I will make an offer for it. Its never been off road, and the guy has had it waxed oiled every year. He also said it has never let him down, and he seems very genuine. I know the guy through a mate.

Is there anything I should look for on the test drive??? Apart from the obvious, I am gonna get the guy to drop it into 4 wheel, so I can see if the diff works ok. There is no sign of oil under the bonnet, and it started when the outside tempreture was -1deg C, so thats a good sign.

Any advice for a newbie would be good, and I can see me having a few weekends getting dirty in checking things out, but I can honestly say I am looking forward to it.

Go for it!
I own a 3 dr..the only disadvantage if you have a young child putting them in the car seat but they soon grow up.
check the service history, any abnormal tyre wear, check for any vibration througth the wheel or gear stick (could be a worn cv joint).
check fluid levels all round.
you dont mention the age of the vehicle..mine is an r reg and I paid £4500 last year.

be warned, they are very adictive and brilliant fun.....nothing like going to work on a monday morning in a suit and tie driving a landy full of funmud after a bit of greenlaning and puddle splashing...just make sure the number plate and lights are mud free! car washes are also fun....but i digress..

have fun !

Hi

Thanks for the reply

Its a 95 on an M, and he wants 4 for it, i was going to offer around 3100 max, but yours sounds alot better buy. I just cant find anything around this way for a reasonable price, with lower miles on. I looked at one yesterday which I was told had 81000 on the clock, which it did, when I looked at the landy service book, it was stamped up to 281000, so some real asses around in this world still.

im by far NOT the worlds expert in this field and can only go by experience, but i bought mine about this time last year....apply a bit of psycology when you make an offer remember that Christmas is just around the corner and no one buys or sells cars this time a year !

the one i got was advertised at £6000 and i knocked it down to £4500 through persistance.

you could always look farther afield if you aren't entirely happy but you sound as though you may have your heart set on it...
good luck

Yeah thanks for that, I wouldnt pay 4 for a three door with 110000 on the clock, so I would look to buy for 3 max, but having sort advice today from a dealer in 4x4 i have been advised about the rear floor, and to watch the gearbox as well, but I also think I would get these people to check it out before I bought, as I dont want something thats going to sit on the drive and cant be used. It certainly seems finding a good one is going to be a real mission, and the cambelt is another thing as well, with the update kit on it, I was quoted around 500 plus. So seems a bit of an expensive motor if it all goes to shi*.

Thanks for your advice danny, much appreciated.
