Hello everyone user of Freelander 2.0 SDI (70-72kW) with diesel motor 20T2N build between 1997 – 2003

Because all my hobby oscillate around cars and electronics, I would like a offer results of my last job. (Maybe not last - but projects was finished few years ago, but I don’t have a time and motivation to talk about another forum).

Generally I work in company witch create and developed cars electronic, all my hobbies also touch of problems in the car. Because personally I drive old rover 600 SDI with engine 20TN2, one day I stay opposite a problem of diagnostics via OBD. Because in my country isn’t popular car, diagnostic tool was very hard to find and, any professional service was not cheap, I tried find solution how connected with a car.

It was challenge task for me, but during a lot of trouble and chances I build cheap device to connect with my car. Device based on microcontroller, lcd screen, supplied from OBD plug, not required any computer, Self -working handy tool. Project was finished in 2013 year, and was used in my car per day. (of course if problems was on board ;).

Because during this all time, some people which found my in web, ask me about, rebuild a series of testers… permanent lag of time, usually life (family) don’t give me a chance, always answered – “sorry I don’t have a time”

But last time situation stay more flexible and found a time to build 10 each of testers in professional process, ready to use.

On the picture, on links below you can see how this tester works in real car.

(Of course movie language is Polish) but all useful information on tester are in English, like more flexible language.

Here a picture of new stuff

Because EDC unit used in Freelander is from the same family like in ROVER MSA11, tester works very well on all. For special request I tested it on Freelander EDC unit 0 281 001 420. Because in my country, like I said cars are not very popular, at this moment Is only fully tested on EDC :

0 281 001 418 - rover 400/ and some models of 200 / Honda civic

0 281 001 419 - rover 600/Honda Accord V – th generation

0 281 001 420 - Freelander 2.0 FL

Of course list of EDC is much longer but, I never test it at all (maybe in the future, depend of possibility and access to car)

Tool has a lot of plus –

- Is small, possible to stay in car, in journey, in home in garage,

- Fully repairable, all parts are easy to get, nothing is hide

- Not required a computer, drivers cables, etc. just a plug and run

- Always you can sell with a car.

Possibilities of tool:

- Reading live data

- Reading and clearing DTC codes

- Test of actuators

- Reading of DTC classic methods during short line L with ground and activate EDC light on dashboard.

Because I’m also member a polish group of rover cars (user SAIL too), here is a link to article about diagnostics and testers. I create them long time ago, and my pal share on the forum . If somebody use a translator can get useable information.

Wow :)

I hope your post isn't removed as a sales pitch @sail !

This guy is straight up. I have been chatting to him about his diag tool and it is bonna fide.

I asked it it would work with the Freelander L Series ECU - so he went out and bought 1 and plugged it into his Rover 600 to test his diag tool would work with it. It did - the car drove strange - but the ECU got the car moving and his diag tool communicated with it correctly.

I apologise Sail for not keeping in touch - I got busy and then never got back to you.

I'd still like one of your devices :)

I'll drop you an email tomorrow.

For those that are interested in electronics or diags Sail's diag bits are cool. They cover most of the Freelander engines - but may be only tested in Rover cars. His diag though do not talk to the other ECUs - ie ABS, SRS etc - that's my take.

As I say, Sail is a straight up guy and enjoys playing around with these electronic gadgets. He has been very happy to chat with me via email about them.

Sail is active on the Rover forums in Poland and knows a lot about them, especially the engines, and thus by association, knows a lot about Freelander engines. Plus for example how they talk to the immobiliser and how to get around that - which is how the Freelander ECU was tested.

There is only 1 problem with Sail - he doesn't own a Landie - you need to get one Sail! I recommend an L Series Freelander :)

Thank you Grumpy :) maybe some day ,who know ?
...and now something funny You know what mean ROVER ?
Repair OVER and OVER...
and my wifes car FIAT ? - Fix It AnTonio :)

So like I prommised - little longer but it's on ready. :)
