thanks to all who replied about the hand winch poll..ive read all the replys and a lot of people are mentioning the tirfor winch.is this one of the better ones?..ive seen lots of hand puller winchs on ebay that are rated at 5 tons but at only £14.99 does the price say it all?..ive pretty much ruled out the electric winch as i do a lot of water and mud plugging, the mechanical winch will be there as a just in case i need it,i dont want a great big winch on the front looking pretty but never getting used and just getting clogged up with water and mud and then when i need it not working as the electrics have failed..any idvice on this or what are your thoughts wheres the best place to get the tirfor if thats the way to go..ta rich

Can't give you any help but I am now interested in getting a hand operated winch. I will watch this thread until it ends.
Will you have to get a new front bumper ?
Let us know where you get it all from.

Don't be tempted to buy too big a one.
Mine is rated at 3.2 tonnes and is very big and heavy. They are ludicrously under-rated because they can be used for lifting as well.
A 1.6 tonner will pull a Landy out of almost anything and isn't too big and heavy to handle.

keep your eye on ebay, they do crop up now and again. mate of mine got one for abut 35quid. other events like sodbury sortout and the autojumbles at the shows may throw up a few.
a note on towing points. it would be worth you getting proper tow points or jate rings attached to your landy, that lashing eye under the bumper will be useless.
