Hi,

new to the forum, and new to Range Rovers (my usual weapon of choice is a high performance saloon, but at 49 I need something a little steadier...and easieer to get into!

SWMBO (She Who Must Be Obeyed) has just bought a 2000 'W' RR DHSE 2.5 with FSH, which is in mint condition;
I'm want to have the vehicle fully serviced inc all filters and fluids, but dont have a drivers manual with the relevant capacities in.

Can anyone please advise on capacities for;
engine
auto gearbox
transfer box
diffs

and how much I will need in total of each kind.

Spoke with a very well known supplier who were worse than useless, in that all they seemed interested in was supplying with outrageous amounts at outrageous prices (no names, no pack-drill!)

Any help and/or advice greatfully received!

Thanks, tried a search but got all kinds of spurious links; will try the suggested hyperlinks

Download RAVE the full workshop manual which also has the owners manual. Lots of links to the download if you search:D

Mint and no owners manual rings alarm bells for me, are you sure the history is real? Have you got the EKA code? If not get it, you wil need it and while you are at it get the radio code:)

Welcome...

The P38 does require copious amounts of fluids, from memory the Gearbox oil requirement is something like 9 litres and similarly for the Engine oil too....

Download RAVE (Rover Automotive Vehicle Encylopedia - or something like that) it is indispensable for a P38 owner

www.landroverresource.com

Is the service history dealer, independant or other....??

If it is dealer, go to your local LR and ask them to check it out...

Echo Datatek....get hold of the EKA code and Radio code....the EKA (Emergency Key Access) is paricularly important as if your vehicle all of a sudden throws a hssy-fit (All Range Rovers are divas) you will be glad you had it!!

you can buy a drivers manuel on ebay for less than ten pounds i did tho not as good as rave, but good to keep in car whilst learning all gagets

Engine 9.5 litres from dry
8.7 refill

auto box 11 litres from dry
If you simply drain the box to drop the sump and replace the filter you'll get about 5 litres out with the rest in the torque convertor and cooler.

transfer box 2.4 from dry
2.0 refill

diffs 1.7 litre from dry
1.6 refill

Can I strongly suggest that, if you're going to keep the car and work on it yourself, you invest a few beer tokens with DATATEK on here. He will supply a lead that will connect your car to a laptop and a disc with the software to deal with the air suspension. You will almost certainly need this at some time.

HOWEVER Datatek also burns a complete workshop manual onto the disc. That is where I got the information above.

Hi There

Dont forget to grease the universal joints & sliders on both prop shafts with a grease gun. Its very easy to replace all the oils yorself & I would get some RTV red sealant to help seal the filler & drain plugs. When removing the drain or filler plugs if there is a pop followed by a back pressure vacume or momantory sucking sound the breather pipes may be blocked this mainly happens on transfer box, axles, auto gearbox. Engine will spring leaks if engine breather is blocked if in doubt check them. Dont forget to swap pollen filters at the same time.
