Hi all

Just bought a 55 reg td4. I have noticed the oil light keeps flickering, eg just gone off road up a mud path to a field. Turned round came back and it started flickering. Have checked the owners manual and it says it is low oil pressure. I take it this a bad thing. Anyone had this problem, what causes it or what the fix is. Am going back to the dealer, just thought it would be better if I had some answers in case his mechanic starts fobbing me off.

Cheers

Low oil pressure.... check level on dipstick as a priority. If level is ok, could be a faulty oil pressure switch (which isn't in common)

Cheers jailon, I checked the oil before i bought the car, before I started it up and oil level was perfect, car has 72k on the clock with full land rover service history, so probably is the switch. Is it an easy cheap fix?

Fairly easy to do, the switches are less than £10 and basically it's a bolt into the block or near oil filter that has 2 connectors on it.

The switch is easy to do, but before you go buy another switch, just have a look under the bonnet and make sure no wires to the block are corroded / insulation burnt as it could be earthing out somewhere

How clean was the oil? Was it relatively clean, dark brown colour or black sludge ?

Black, but not sludgy. I took it off road today, nothing too bad but went down a bit of a steep hill in it and i gotta admit it was impressive. I got about 200 yards down the road and the traction control light and the yellow hill descent light was on. After a while it went out but it has been coming on and off all evening. Hill descent was not working with these lights on. Its going back tomorrow to the dealer to have other things looked into. I have been on the forums to ask about the other faults and have got back to them to point them in the right direction, do you or anyone out there know what the problem is?

Cheers

Mine on the Disco was doing it but after an oil change it was fine. Big Stu's was doing it too but his oil pressure switch was ****ed. A few £ later and it was fixed :D

Landies - don't ya just love them ;)

Ahh thanks mat i also have a flickering low oil pressure light, that people on here has advised may be a oil pressure switch. So hopefully that will be rectified tomorrow.
