Hi all, back to FL ownership following a long gap- 7 years to be exact (I was a RR owner for a while ).
Anyway, found myself a dodgy bound for scrap td4 (05) with 182k that ran and had an mot so figured for the price (200 squid) it was a steal. The issue stated was injector buggered, and no maintenance done in a while… ran for codes only code is 0235 DTC boost pressure sensor. Noticed a wire hanging out the MAP plug so wrote it down to that. Did have a slight misfire but nothing too major so figured it would be an easy fix (lolz).
Drove it home on its own steam, though no exhaust silencer made it interesting.
So at home, exhaust silencer on, and first step was to do a full service. Once I take the covers off I spot what looks like an oil leak coming from the crank breather, so I add the vortex and a new breather/cover to my cart.
swapped the breather, cleaned it up, did an oil change and tried to clear up some of the carbon in the inlet. Figured I’d better start it up to circle some of the oil and the engine now sounds absolutely awful, terrible misfire/judder and while it was circling I took the oil cap off to find it is blowing with what looks like smoke: bugger.
anyways, best to not assume the worst, so I start stripping it back down to get to the injectors- and I spot a gaping hole under one of the fuel lines (obviously from the previous owner failing to remove that faulty injector)
So, now ordered another rocker cover, and will continue with removing injectors post work tomorrow. Should also add my turbo hoses are lined with oil
starting to think this might be a big project, but anyway, besides piston rings/valve seals, anything that would cause the oil cap to blow? As I’m stripping it down, may as well look over as much as I can before I end up pulling the engine it’s supposed to be a cheap toy (and the boss will murder me if I start pulling an engine on the front lawn)
thanks in advance- Ben
