I am in the process of having a rear ladder fitted to the LHS of my Defender 110 Td5 CSW.

For fitment of the TOP of the ladder to the body, is it a good idea /advisable/ necessary - for safety and security reasons - to have a metal reinforcement plate fitted inside the body skin through which the bolts will go?

Please advise.

if it was me doing it i would, to spread the load - would have thought a 4" square for each foot would do

Why fit a ladder on the back when all landies come with a front one as standard. Foot on top of tyre, onto the wing, bonnet if you like or just straight onto the roof. If you're the fussy type slap some chequer plate on the wingtops. Job's a good un:D

Fitted a genuine LR one to the back of mine as i wanted one that goes through the body instead hooking on the gutter.
The kitted wanted me to use rivnuts, so they were binned and i made a plate for inside, out of left over 3mm chequer plate and some penny washers.
