Had issues with old starter motor, took that out no probs (one with seperate solonoid).
Come to replace with new all in one starter motor RTC5225 and can't get it to line up to fit with the holding bolts.

It's a 1980 5 bearing engine 2.25.

Has anybody had similar difficulties? or is it I've missed something obvious.
any advice would be appreciated
cheers

I have this nagging thought in the back of my head that the first starter motor I bought for my landie didn't fit either... but this is about 12 years ago. I would check, with paddock they are the same. It would be typical of landrover to upgrade to a part that was not compatible! ;)

Took the new starter motor back to paddocks with the original I'd taken out. Turns out I'd been given the wrong one. If any body has a series 3 five bearing engine and need a new starter motor, don't go with the starter coded rtc5225 that the 3 bearings use, you apparently need the same starter as an early 90

so hopefully this info will save someone the frustration of spending a day trying everything under the sun to fit an incorrect starter motor !

cheers
