Anyone got any experience of this? I've got a couple on order for my P38. I've never fitted them to any of my previous LR's, so don't know much about doing it! Are there points in place for me to fit them, or do I drill through the chassis. I'm sure I read somewhere that I could replace the existing tow points, but I thought they were welded onto the chassis.

Also, anyone care to comment on the arragement. I initially thought one front and one back, but I have a tow bar at the back which will shortly be replaced with a tow bar / tow pin that should make for a decent recovery point (?), therefore I was maybe thinking of putting them both on the front, one either side.

Cheers,

Matt.

Would put one front and back. Do not like using the towhitch for a recovery point. I have seen more than one (even class V) come off the truck when fully loaded with a winch. It is unbelievable the forces on the recovery points. I prefer to drill holes in the chasis at the points where I want the points attached. Fix with the bolts, drive to a certified welder, have him/her weld them on, remove and replace the bolts. (The heat from the welding will temper the bolts making them useless, and I would replace them with at least grade 8 bolts.) Have never seen one fixed like that come off. It is never fun to watch a recovery point come flying off and sailing toward the recovery vehicle, and even worse the people inside of it. One reason I always put my hood up when I am winching and put a weighted sling over the winch wire halfway down.
Not sure where the best places would be on a Rangie, but would think that under the bumpers on the rails. Just a thought..

Hiya mmaddock,
on my Discovery the jate rings just replace the bottom bolts on the front bumper, they should come with heavy duty nuts and bolts. Never looked under a P38 so can't help you with where to mount them. I would advise having one each side on the front for easier recovery.
As for the rear, I have a tow bar/pin fitted and its not let me down yet.

Sorry I didn't get back to you through P/M, been flat out this week. Have a look at http://www.foxham4x4.co.uk/ up near Lyneham, not been yet but going soon. I think the 19th is the next one.

Cheers FF, I think that's what I'll do. Ordered a new General AT2 at the same time to replace the (dead) spare, but Paddocks were out of stock of the tyre so will be getting it all on Tuesday, and then getting dirty! Might end up putting 2 on the rear as well eventually.

Looked at that site, but it didn't load half the pictures and none of the links would let me click on them. I hate people who don't use standard HTML code - I guess it will work in Internet Exploiter - will have a look later. Might be up for that one, and I may have a set of AT's on the P38 by then.

Matt
