Been looking at buying an intercooler for my landy, just so she can go up hills really.

  1. Will I have trouble fitting it?
  2. Will it make that much difference?
  3. Is there anything better I could do?

Just fitting an intercooler may up the MPG marginally.

To get a power boost you will need to up the boost and fuelling. At this point i would be worried about your old TD blowing up, as they have a reputation to do.

where in stafford are ya ? - i'm in between stafford and newport

what your thinking of doing is more trouble than it's worth - you could get an intercooler to fit but the performance difference wouldnt be worth the reduced engine life - the TD isnt ever going to be capable of much more than it does as standard and trying to push it more will kill it sooner

save your money and put a 200Tdi in it when it eventually dies

I'm the other side, in a small village called Fradswell, know it?

When the TD packs in then what about a TD5?

that's somewhere on the way to utt ?

stick to putting a 200 or 300 in it - putting a TD5 into a pre 1990 90/110 isnt such a good plan for a number of reasons - mounts/GB/ECU/cost etc etc

Yup, thats the one.

I'll find me a 300 tdi for her then.

Will I have any trouble fitting that?

compared to fitting a TD5 in a 200/300 is much less complex - have a search for patmans 200 install thread as it has lots of pictures and links

1. No not really need to make some brackets up but its not too bad.
2. Very marginal MPG increase.
3. Take the turbo off and run it as a NA until your insurance will be ok on a TDI.

I looked at Patman's post and I'm not up for all that.

How much dya reckon it'd cost at a garage?

My uncle owns a garage that does a lotta stripping down of BMs, reckon I could stick a V8 in there? I've seen rumours of this around but nothing solid, I can imagine a lot of work and a lot of reliability issues.

a garage will charge you close on a grand plus the engine to fit

there will allways be some college kid who will say they'll do if for 200 and some alcopops - a v8 will be as reliable as your TD, but it will empty your wallet a lot faster
