Fitting a steering guard

I recently bought a steel 1 piece steering guard from scorpion racing to fit my 90 landy (r reg 97). Well, I just can't get it to fit for love nor money, it just won't fit between the chassis arms, it seems around 10mm too big. Is it just too big or am I seriously missing something? Any advice guys?
