First time off road and I’ve damaged it

so yesterday I took my d2 off road. Prior to doing so I had it inspected from an independent Land Rover specialist who said it was one of the cleanest he’d seen underneath. So I thought I’d take it over to aldermaston pay and play site. All was going well then I decided to go through some water about 1.5ft deep and my power steering went for about a minute but soon returned. Then on the way home my clutch started juddering when pulling away it never done this before and now have a slight wering sound coming from someone when going along the road. What have a I done wrong I was only staying on the light stuff
 
Welcome to the looneyzone,

Sounds like you broke it. May take a little more info / detailed info to source the noise.

Have you lifted the bonnet to see if you can isolate the noise a bit more? checked the state of the aux belt? listened to the pump / alternator?
Be careful not to get a finger caught or your hair.

Is the "drain plug" in the bell housing?

Are you sure the water was 450mm deep?

Haven’t checked for a plug in the bell housing but will do later. The noise seems to be coming from the brakes or tyres but I’ve jet washed the brakes encase there was some muck in them. As for the steering I think I might try a new belt and tensioner as I’m guessing the belt was slipping when it was wet. Thanks

Use a genuine belt, Contitech, as the others tend to slip and squeak.

But also ... To future proof it you might want to look up wading plugs, Extended axle/gearbox etc breathers, 'How to change wheel bearings', 'How to waterproof grease stuff', snorkels, waterproofing the engine bay, air intakes, air filters, electrical parts, etc etc.

Many moons ago an old guy told me every time you take a land rover off road it costs a hundred quid, I of course told him he was a ****, BUT having been off road many many times in all the deep water/slurry etc I soon came to realise he was indeed right and if ti doesnt cost you a hundred quid there and then it will cost you later as another part has worn out prematurely due to the water/mud grinding paste wrecking havoc.
Starter motors/ alternators/alternator brush boxes/wheel bearings, 3x pas pumps/cambelt and clutch both my fault as I forgot the wading plugs! in the end I lost count!

What I also noted after a while was all the smart cookies avoided the deep water/mud but of course thats boring.

But where is the fun in that..............:p:p

To the OP, following on from @Paul D post, make sure to read up on what the D2 needs, something that is often ignored is the ECU, there are wiring kits to move this into the cabin ( just be careful , most do not seem to allow for autos)

They never gave any issues, did have to put a new ball on one a few years ago, but that was well worn when i bought the car, I have never had a car that ate so many wheel bearings, on the upside the good ones are 30 quid a corner and the cheapies about 15 quid.

was lucky with my 109 in not having to do bearings , did go through a few snapped half shafts though
