Hi all

you might have seen a couple of posts I've made recently. The first discussing the merits of diesel versus v8. Then I started looking at discoveries.

I finally found a car I liked. A 2001 Range Rover Vogue edition. It has 60k on the clock, 3 owners, hardly used in the last couple of years and a full history. Admitedly I don't know much about rangies but the general condition gives it an honest look. We went for a drive and it sounds like a car that is only 3 or 4 years old. Doors close with a reasuring 'clump' sound.

Getting the cash out tomorrow and will be collecting the car in the next couple of days I hope.
 
you will keep hearing the clumps but they will be less re assuring and more frightening.

thats normal.

obviously you don't need the bits that fall off as the car will keep running!


oh, and before you part with the cash, check the coolant

then again,

then check every button and its function.

finally check the coolant!

Check, double check everything including the coolant. Take it for another test drive and spank it then check the coolant (allowing for a slight cooling period!)...
Do a search on P38 overheating, low mileage is no guarantee it doesn't have issues.
 
hello nik,glad to see you,ve finally found what you want.what changed tour mind about the disco,s was it the prestige luxurious feel of the rangie.thats what made me take one out today-a 2.5 diesel,loud and sluggish but sitting in that armchair seat with my arm resting the the armrest has just left me feeling like i want one i just know that i,ll have to get my spanners out when things start goin wrong but from what i,ve read thats just part n parcel of owning a rr.hope you enjoy your new toy.craig
 
The term 'hardly been used' can be a double-edged sword. Vehicles in general do not like standing idle & the more complex (like a P38) they are the more that adage applies. Linkages can seize, seals can dry out & electrics play up. Make sure everything actually works initially, at least that will buy you time to save up for forthcoming upkeep costs.

By the way are you lot being a bit over dramatic about them or are they honestly that prone to problems?

Bit late to be asking I supose as I'll find out soon enough.
 
nik i,m sure someone will be along shortly to put your mind at rest,but for your sake i hope they,re been a little over dramatic.i,m sure we all know when youre a memeber of a car club like this you will read about probs if you join the mercedes ml club you can read about the problems they have its not just landrovers,little electric faults we can tolerate has long as it does,nt stop you driving the car.hope you enjoy

I have to say it sounded and felt amazing, very solid and everything seemed to work as it should. I cant get over what a lovely car they are to sit in. My only complaint is that the engine was quite quiet. Probably a good thing but i do love the sound of a v8

any car forum (or any forum for products/services) gets more that its fair share of issues reported, most people stumble on a forum because they are looking for a solution and someone will have seen it and fixed it before!!

thats the up side, the support is excellent on here, you do get alot of ribbing but if you have a sense of humour (if you don't, develop one quick) you will get along just fine.

everything on the p38 has already failed to some degree or other, ive probably fixed most of the issues on my car that are reported on here

hope you enjoy it and will see you back on here soon,, just like the rest of us who have fallen in love with the P38 you have to learn to love with their faults,, i have,, and i really enjoy the car and the lifestyle.

Ha ha! How much fun can you have :D

That is a lovely car to drive and a reasuring sound to the engine but actyually very quiet. Lovely seating position and very safe feeling. Sat Nav works perfectly but needs updating. Only one little electrical grimlin so far which is the warning of windows needing to be reset. Also getting a bit of a draft from somewhere under the steering column, I guess it might be missing some insulation where the column goes through the bulkhead.

Also I want to say thanks to you all for the help and advice including the guys in the Disco forum. big thanks to Rewmer for steering me towards the V8. Its not exactly fast so I can see now that the deisel would have done my head in.

Lots of exploring and fiddling to be done tomorrow and I wanna show my dog the boot.

Those seas are coming straight out. Are they worth much?
