I would just like to take this chance to inform you about the 2010 First Overland expedition.

The expedition comprises of three Oxford and three Cambridge students and one experianced mechanic (me), we are due to depart on September 1st 2010 and will follow the original route all the way to Singapore via Myanmar (Burma).

All information on the expedition can be seen here www.firstoverland.co.uk

First Overland 2010 has a 3 part plan

The first part of our plan is obvious, we are to follow in the 1955 expeditions footsteps.

The second part of our plan will span the vast area between Iran and Thailand. We will be distributing a number of specially designed glasses to the third world. These glasses have been specially designed with retractable lenses. This means they can be adjusted to suit each individuals needs and the best part is that they can be adjusted by the user with no need of a pediatrician. We will be carrying out research for Professor Silver of Oxford, the glasses inventor, to see how viable these glasses are in Asia and to see how people take to them. www.vdw.ox.ac.uk

The third part of our plan involves the Futuresence charity. www.futuresence.co.uk/ourCharity.aspx
We have merged our expedition in with the Future Sence foundation so that whislt we are in India, the country we intend to carry out a 6 week study into the glasses, we will be able to work under an already established circle of people offering help, the Future Sence charity has a basecamp in the North East. We are looking at basing this study in the North East as its a part of India often forgotten about and we feel needs some assistance. Merging our expedition with the foundation has enabled us to gain Charitable Status and it also means that any donations we recieve, fifty percent will go directly to the foundation enabling them to futher their projects such like the one in India.

We have set up a donation page where people can pledge money to help us achieve our goals. www.justgiving.com/firstoverland2010 we have already raised the funds required for the Land Rovers refurbishment but we still need £20,000 in order to get to Singapore, please dig deep and help us achieve this life changing goal. Thank you, The OxCam First Overland 2010 Team

Hi, think you may have a problem getting into Myanmar, all westener cars are banned. If you have managed to get around the ban mind sharing how? Normal route now is to go through China which is very expensive as you have to have all your route booked in advance and take a guide. They also take a bond for your car which they should refund after you leave.

Yes I'd heard that as well and was also wondering how they were going to get thru Afganistan and Pakistan intact??

Just googled this and apart from this same thread on several landrover forums. There's nothing else anywhere on the net?? no publicity nothing on Oxford or Cambridge Uni's websites. None of the above links work?? I smell an elaborate scam

Are these guys real? Most of that route is a combat Zone. No place for a refurbished landy with a bunch of geeks. I was in bits of it some time ago with third marine expeditioary force (TMEF(SEASIA) We got our arses kicked. We had all the gear.Still got ****ed.

Friended you all on Facebook. Great idea, and glad that someone decided to follow-through with it this time around. You bet I'll support your cause (if it's legit ;)), and keep an eye out for progress. Good luck, and safe journey!
