first land rover

hi all ive just got my first land rover and its an 55plate freelander with the face lift .
my question is this .
I'm wanting to change the radio and was interested to know if there is an easy way of taking out the original radio ????

also would I need a new wiring loom and cage for the radio to sit in ?

Welcome to LZ, Mate!

I imagine there will be some hidden screws, or you need a little special tool to remove it, so that they don't get nicked all the time.
Try forum search in the Freelander section if needed. Or else post about it in there.

going to be looking for some green lanes soon once my shifts are done at work .

Panasonic did a kit, with a mounting frame and wiring harness adaptor so the steering wheel controls fit. It would take any of their double DIN standard radio/DVD/CD/USB etc, sets. It was still available middle of last year and in stock in SA too., so should be available most parts of the world.

It depends on what stereo is in there as to how it comes out?
If it's a double DIN, single or multiple CD Vestion unit? The centre console needs removing, before the all the screws holding the stereo in can be accessed.
If it's a single DIN Becker unit with a cubby hole below, then keys are needed to remove it.

However before spending money on the stereo, you will want to make sure you have 4 identical tyres with the least worn on the rear. Odd tyres on a Freelander will destroy the 4X4 system very quickly, which will cost big cash to repair.

Excellent advice as always!
Id completely agree with Nodge, make sure that you have a good set of tyres and that all the service items have been taken care of first before you start spending money on other stuff.
Even if the previous owner said 'its just been serviced' chances are it hasn't or they wont of done everything (like the PCV filter) so I'd give it a full service including PCV and fuel filter before spending cash on a new stereo etc.

This is our first landy as well and I also want to change the head unit and speakers but so far Ive put a full new set of tyres on it, given it a full service, and this month will be changing the VCU and diff carrier with replacements from Bell engineering. Only then when im happy everything is as good as it can be ill buy a new head unit.

Extras and upgrades are always nice but make sure all the mechanicals are sorted first. No good having a nice shiny new head unit if the IRD/Diff lets go because of mismatched tyres or the engine sprays out oil everywhere cos the crank case breather is blocked (my wifes TD4 had one previous owner and a full and comprehensive service history but the PCV filter was completely solid with baked on oil when I replaced it and didn't look like it had ever been replaced!)
