Evening,

Was just crawling underneath my 90 to top up the gear box oil earlier when I noticed the underneath of my fuel tank was all wet... it's leaking bloody diesel!

I've had a quick look around the tank and it wppears to be seeping from the bottom, as opposed to running down from the top, so unless the pipe has come loose on the top, and the fuel is running down the side that I can't see, I'm going to need a new tank.

The cheapest tanks that I can find are around £67 on Paddocks. Does any body know of a cheaper place that I can find one, and can I fit it without having to remove the seat box?

Thanks in advance

First find out where its leaking - you may need to drop it and repair it which can be done if its a small leak and things are tight. Repairing is easy if the leaking area is small enough and will cost about £15 for materials MAX.

The seatbox doesn't have to come out, the tank drops.

Take the panel off under the drivers seat and see if its leaking from the sender unit or stand pipe. Might just need a tweak or a new O ring.

Thanks for the quick response! I'll have a look in the morning. Bloody typical though, I'm meant to be revising for my A2 exams and all I'm getting from my Mum and Dad is "you'll do anything but revise", so now I've got this to explain to them!

Fingers crossed, it's just a pipe thats perished

Well you don't want to loose any more diesel - it probably costs about 10pence evertime it drips.

How badly is it leaking? A temp fix might be in order or even a temp diesel "tank" somewhere, like a 20litre drum and a bit of fuel line to go from it to the lift pump until you get past your exams. You NEED to pass these, so you can get a job and then pay for more landy bits.

Its leaking enough to drip once every five minutes or so, and I have also got a 20 litre jerry can which I could use somehow!

I had this thother day, got a big hole in the tarmac outside my house now! Turns out it was the filler pipe and was only leaking the amount contained in the pipe - probly never noticed before coz i'm always driving from a petrol station so it goes down pretty quick, only this time i filled up to the brim with tesco's finest mazola outside my house. Soon as it got below the level of the fuel-in hose it was fine, but it was dripping down just behind the front o-s mud guard (i park downhill on a slope). Easy enough to get to with a torch to see where the leak is, but warning, diesel eats tarmac!!!

Well it definitely can't be my filler pipe because my tank is only 1/4 full (if that), which is why I think it may be a split in the bottom somewhere

I've had time to calm down a bit now! (was very ****ed off earlier) and I did buy my landy as a hobby, so I don't know what I'm winging about. I might grind into the old tank to see how much **** has built up over 21 years!

I just need to find somehow to get hold of a land rover tank tomorrow! Not looking very likely (that is, if my tank is not leaking from the pipes, I have plenty of fuel line left from my previous plumbing job)

Try jake wrights and simmonites pos and give me a ring if you want a hand with it. I'm going through to simmonites anywhey tommorow so if you need anything just gimme a bell :)

Cheers ashton. I dont think that jake wrights are open yet but ill give them a ring in the morning. Bloody typical isnt it! I get one thing sorted and then something else goes wrong! Leaking fuel would explain why i dint get great mpg on the run up to northumbria uni. Ill give u a buzz if im really stuck! In fact, if jake wrights arent open ill call simmonites and ask if they have any fuel tanks.
