3rd = radio pixels have gone and also dash board pixels, does anyone know where i could get these fixed or do i need to buy new

4th = front air bag has got a tinny split in it, how much to buy a new on and what are they like to change?

thanks in advance for help

hi mate,

i have the same thing as your problem number 2 with the fan noise, i have heard that it may be a problem with the final stage resistor needing changing you can get these from ebay for £40. I have the same problem but at the moment its not causing any problems as of yet. The dash and radio pixel problem is a very common problem with these range rovers, mine suffers from the same problem with the missing pixels on the dash. You can sometimes get these repaired, search on google for pixel repair companies. If you have a local independent land rover garage get them to give you a quote for a new dash binnacle (thats the unit with the dials and message centre screen) last time i got a price it was around £270 for a brand new OEM binnacle and around about £50 for fitting. With regards to your speaker problem can you give some more information e.g. which speaker is not working?? or is it all of them?

Hope this helps
Matt

hi matt thanks for the reply and help, i have ordered the resistor which should be here tomorrow, when i got the car there was a cd half stuck in the multi changer in the dash so i thought thats why it wasnt working, i have since removed the disc which was a mission in itself lol but there is no sound at all coming out of any speaker so i was hoping to be pointed in the right direction ....

Hi mate, just search on the internet for the final stage resistor installation instructions on the internet, have heard its a bit tricky to fit as its behind the drivers side lower panel just next to the foot rest as you have to put your hand up there without being able to see. Let me know if its solves the fan problem as i have the same issue, never done anything about it as its not causing any major problems yet.

Now to your audio system, in the boot on the left hand side is a compartment this is where all the audio and navigation system lives, do you have the Vogue or HSE spec? and what year is it?

Matt

hi matt its a hse and its 2003 year, i have pulled plug off black amp in boot but it made no differance mate ..

The amp gets its power from the radio module which sits below the black trim piece under the spare wheel well cover. You have to remove 3 nuts and the carpet covered side trim piece (2 plastic clips) and a luggage anchor (the one nearest the rear lights) the radio module has a fuse in it next to the large multi plug. If the fuse in the radio module is ok, there is a fuse in the glove box fuse box that provides power for the whole of the entertainment compartment (its is labeled on the fuse box cover. Does the head unit turn on, i.e. do you get any lights on it.

good info matt, the radio comes on and i can just make out treble, bass, fader etc, the cd s in the multi player work as i watched it with the outer case off, but just no sound

NOT SURE WHAT YOU MEAN MATE, WHATS DSP? its just a standerd looking cd player in the dash and a black amp thing inthe boot, it also has all the plugs in the boot for a sat nav system

dont worry, DSP stands for Digital Sound Processing and was a factory option as its the premium amplifier. if you send me your VIN number i can bring up the entire specification of your car on Microcat and it will tell me what your entertainment system is made up of. Just realised that the info i gave you about the radio module under the wheel well cover is wrong as that only applies to the Vogue spec the HSE has it built into the dash unit.

Matt

ok, have checked on Microcat and your car has the standard stereo amplifier, have looked at the RAVE electrical diagram for fuses you need to check: Fuse 8 - 5amp CD/Radio Unit ignition wire (sends turn on signal when you put the key in the ignition). Fuse 49 Radio - 30amp (main feed to amplifier and head unit) if you PM me your email address i will send you a copy of all the wiring diagrams and info off RAVE which might help your further. I would say that if the fuse's are ok i would check that there is power coming in on pin 5 which should be Red and Green strip in the amplifier's multi plug and that it is getting a good ground which is pin 26 and is brown using a multimeter. Other wise you may have a faulty amplifier, check for signs of water marks/damage as these cars a well known for leaking around the rear window that is above the entertainment compartment.

great stuff mate , you are very helpfull, all fuses were ok when i checkek them but there didnt seem to be any live going to the multi plug in the boot so i will try running a live to it matt, i will pm my addy to you now and thanks again for all your help

Just emailed you those pdf's, did the new resistor solve the fan noise completely? If you are only getting a bit of music coming out sounds like a faulty amp to me.

Matt

yes mate resistor sorted it, i looked at taking amp out but it looked a bit off a job lol

Just fitted the new resistor but hasn't solved the problem  , also the one I took out looked quite new so think someone previously has tried to fix the problem. Was your problem, when you opened the the car the fan behind the centre console started turning slowly? Then after a few seconds the fan slows down and goes quiet which sounds like a humming noise? Does this sound the exact problem you were having?
