I googled “ferry Europe to UK” and got nearly 31,000,000 responses. For “ferry France to England” there are a mere ten million.
Simply, I want to take my Land Rover Defender 110 and myself on any crossing from the Netherlands, Belgium or France to England, probably in mid August . I want to do it as cheaply as possible, night crossing no problem if that’s cheaper, prefer not to book but would do so if that saved money.
Please, any advice? Which crossing should I take? Is there a particular crossing known to cost less than the others? The websites I’ve tried work in a way different to how I’d like them to work: they ask me for route, date and time (to which I’d like to answer “not important” /”don’t know exactly”/ “doesn’t matter”; “please tell me the best price and I’ll be at that port at the right time”.

Hey,

cheapest I have found is usually the shortest which is Dover - Calais. When we went to the Alps late August I think I paid £30 each way. Book it in advance and keep an eye out for offers. I think we went with P&O check their website. cheapest fair is usually early morning (we sailed around 4-5am!). If you have a high vehicle though it can cost more, so try to travel without a roofrack etc.

HTH.

Had the same problem, but going the other way, Eurotunnel have some good deals at the moment...the only thing I'd say about travelling through France, but dont forget to factor in the cost of using toll roads.

I'm heading to Tuscany in June, we looked at driving through France but using the Mappy.com travel calculator which takes tolls into account, it came up with a figure of around 200 euros each way, but Hook of Holland to Germany and running parallel to the French border is looking like the winner at the moment.

If anyone else has any suggestions advice, I'd love to hear it

Morning H
dont know which part of UK you travelling from but P&O from Hull to Rotterdam for me every time. Fantastic ship (like a cruise liner) and some good deals to be had. Also forces personel (and I think ex forces) get discounted rates. Mate is `away` at mo so dont know the details of how that works. May be up your street?
Cheers, Tony

Dont take night ferry as you have to pay for a cabin...cheapest is the day crossing, rotterdam to harwich is my preferred route.

Ahh, but with a cabin, you get the chance to have a drink, eat well (all ya can eat restaraunt :D ) and sleep it all off landing in Europe 9 am fully refreshed (or hungover..). Cheapest I have done Hull to Rotterdam with vehicle was £79. Living in Gods fave part of the Country (oop north) it the best and cheapest option
