Went out earlier in the lashing rain no problems at all until came to restart after doing the weekly battle around aldi. The three amigos ABS/TC/HDC decided to stay on after starting. Switched off an on. Only the ABS stayed on until I moved off then went. This got me thinking. What fault code reader do I need. Cheap as possible just to locate faulty sensor etc before it becomes a full blown problem. Disco 2002 TD5

SVS or other intermittent fault will or will not reset completely the warning lamps on ignition...only the intermittent sensor related faults will leave the ABS light on alone which will extinguish when you exceed 9.4mph cos the ECU ''assumes'' the fault was rectified... most common is hub failure, at the beginning it will be intermittent as the air gap between the sensor and the reluctor ring is unstable due to the incipient wear in the bearing, when it gets more worn the lamps will stay on all the time.... check for play in the wheels and if you find in one it's quite possible that there's the problem, a proper scanner would tell you exactly though... no cheap available

After detecting a fault, the SLABS ECU selects an appropriate default strategy which, where possible, retains some
operational capability. A shuttle valve switch fault and throttle position signal fault are classified as permanent faults.
If a permanent fault is detected, the related warning lamp illumination and default strategies are automatically
employed in subsequent ignition cycles, even if the fault is intermittent, until the fault has been rectified and cleared
from memory. If a non permanent fault is detected, the related warning lamp illumination and default strategies will
only be employed in subsequent ignition cycles if the fault is still present.

After rectification of an ABS sensor fault, the ABS and ETC functions are disabled, and the ABS warning lamp remains
illuminated after the lamp check, until vehicle speed exceeds 9.4 mph (15 km/h)
(to allow additional checks to be
performed).

The rain reference struck a chord with me. I've had the 3 amigos on mine about three times, All were immediately after driving through HuuuuGe puddles (the kind that land on yer windscreen).
I've avoided such puddles since and never got the lights back. Is there some part of that system in the front wheel arch or wing perchance?
