Wrong belt.

I did the same on my 12J. Ordered a belt from paddocks (will fit all 4 cylinder engines it says, will it hell, way too short)

For a 2.25 part number is 563132

Just checked, its actually the same belt I used on my 2.5 so will do for yours (just read your other thread and saw it was a 2.5 N/A engine)

Its 1984..... Diesel 2.25....

563132 is the part I have.......

Basically with the alternator pushed all the way over to the engine its still too tight to fit on....

I wonder if they could have mis-boxed the belt....can someone measure the 561312 and tell me how long it "should" be.

Sometimes if you take the bolt out of the adjuster slide you can get a bit more movement from the alternator, enough to get new belt over the pulley's and once on the bolt can be replaced.

I will try that... My dooming assumption was once the belt was on there wouldn't be a huge amount of slack to allow it to go back... I don't recall anything like the tightness/lack of space on 200TDI..

I've had a tight fitting belt on a series, the secret is to fit it over the two of the pulleys then get it to just grip the third while someone turns the engine over with the starting handle. Mind your fingers, though! If you can't get the belt to "catch" it probably is too small. Might be worth soaking the belt in boiling water for a few minutes before fitting to make it a bit less stiff.

Ok.. it may just be a learning curve if they really tend to be fairly tight on a Series... From the looks of it the model belt I have is the longer one.... I marked where the alternator was but who knows the last chap may have but a stupidly long belt on.

Just wondering, does the sherpa version have a different waterpump or alternator bracket? If it does the belt length might be different

All sorted thanks chaps... I changed the bolt which the previous bracket was on to a lower one and it reaches fine...

Yeah the land rover 12J is slightly different to the 15J. You said in your pother thread its from a sherpa. The timing cover is different I dont lknow what else is
