Hi I OWN a 1998 dse bmw 2.5 td rr.
I started to get the odd slipping noise from the fan belt(also drives alternator,water pump, power steering pump ec).
The noise got progresively more regular over the period of a month so i did the obvious and replaced the fan belt.
The belt did not look too bad when removed but it was showing wear and tear.
The slipping noise did not go away,
I took a closer look and noticed a slight leak from the auto tensioner on the belt so i replaced this.
Slightly better but the squeek slipping noise is still there.
The noise is not there on idle but is there under load, ie Setting of in 1st and 2nd then goes away in higher gears.
There is loads of tension on the belt but i am being driven mad by what sounds like a slipping fan belt.
