Fan Belt Cog Wobbly

Hello,

The fly wheel at the end of the crankshaft that turns the fan belt looks to be wobbling a bit (ie. doesn't spin totally flat, it jiggles a touch), but it doesn't feel loose. Is there anything that I can do to remedy this, or is is a sign of bad things to come?

i keep telling yer pos ferget bout the 2.5NA u got in there, and fork out for a tDi.

Have a look in the disco forum theres someone selling a 200tdi disco 156k with a snapped chassis for £450. bargain.

Are yer talking about the crankshaft pulley? it shunt wobble at all reeely but I wunt be surprised if it did. The nut is tightened up to about a brazillion foot pounds so I'd be surprised if it had come loose, keep yer eye on it.

I suspect it may be a DAMPER pulley, with the outer doughnut joined to the inner hub by rubber. If the rubber perishes the thing can come apart ....
....which is probably not good news.

These crankshaft pulley dampers were usually more theoretical than essential.

Find a solid steel one, and bolt it on VERY TIGHT, as Slob mentioned earlier.

Does it squeek a lot like a canary until you squirt a bit of wd40 on it and then its ok until tomorrow when you start up and it squeeks like a canary again?

something on my n/a squeaks like that. i assumed it was the belt...

Sounds like a bearing.

Oh ffs, it's me being a ****. When my engine's sat ticking over twiddling its thumbs and wobbling like it does, it makes the wheel look like its wobbling. One revs it's perfectly fine.

A m8 of mine has got a TVR Griffith which had a loose crankshaft pulley, on closer inspection it turned out someone had it off before and stripped the bolt on the way back in so badly it wouldn't tighten back up properly. He had a big air gun (1300lbs/ft) on it for about 5 mins trying to undo it. He wasn't happy.
