I've got the chance of a fairey pto winch for my defender off a pal
The 110 it's on has been sat outside a few years so I suspect the winch will need freed off
All shafts ,linkages ,and take off that bolts to the gearbox is there
But weve no idea of value and are they any good when working ?
Thanks

They are the mutts nuts.
Winch itself wont be seized, the drivshaft u/js might not be perfect, but I bet they will still work
Make sure pto has the sliding clutch dog still fitted, if it still has the plastic cover that is very unusual.

As for value take a look on ebay, some people want silly money.

They are heavy really really heavy!

Front cross member needs two tag welding to it for the winch to bolt to.

I would strongly advise you strip the pto down and check the drive chain and seals/bushes are good.
Alao pull the end of the winch off, not the geared end as that part is super tough, then check the dog clutch as they can wear, can be saved with weld and the grinder.

I don't know about o Es for the defender but I've got an old one on my series and it is a beast. I reckon to replace it would be well over a grand, even if I could find one. Make sure it comes with spare shear pins.

Got one on my series as well, for shear pins I use M6 cap head bolts!
They are pretty much identical inside to the defender version, and the mayflower version that came before them.

When I got mine, I did a bit of research on shear pins with the aim of getting a few made. Apparently a special grade of brass is used that will shear at a given force appropriate to the pin diameter. The trouble was I couldn't find out what grade of brass the originals were made from, not that I tried very hard to find out. If memory serves, there was someone on here talking about making them and selling to members.
