Factory Alarm

When I bought my 94 Disco (yesterday!) chap tells me that the alarm had been dsiconnected at the request f the previous owner. 'apparently' they were a pain in the ^&*^ for some reason. Is this correct, if not can anyone advise how to re-connect it?

I have personally had no prob with my 95 300tdi. very sensitive though
A car nudged very gently my bumper and it went off!!

Any ideas how its wired up?
