Never have i been so happy to see a w#%ked water pump. My 2.5 dse overheated WHEN SOMEBODY ELSE WAS DRIVING IT !!!!
and i had visions of cracked heads and scored bores, absolutely papping myself with the wallet palpitating and all that stuff. I took out the thermostat and put it in a cup of boiling water and that was opening fine, put it all back together and still overheating. Pipe into radiator hot, pipe out of radiator cold, so i took out the water pump and lo and behold the plastic impeller had dropped off the back. Phew!! The symptoms were fairly obvious, the engine would get real hot real fast, ie from stone cold to red hot within 2km's. I guess the new pump will have to come from overseas as our nz parts stock is close to nil, so i will find out if there has been any other damage done in a couple of weeks.
