do i need the cats on the car or not, its lpg so emmisions should be low!!!

i'm not sure whether to remove em or keep em, one is ferked so ive got to sort something.

i was thinking of 3 options

1 bang the feckers out and run without em

2 replace with s/hand cats

3 buy a stainless setup (with or without em?)

4 leave em rattling!!!

1 and 2 are my favourite but whats the emissions gonna be, what should they be?

3 is too expensive at the moment but i would like an improvement in exhaust note! and maybe power?

4 is doing my tits in!!!!

one of the options will be done at the w/end but i dont want to remove em and fail the test in november although i can set car to run exclusively on lpg for test purposes!!!

come on fellas, i know you all know the answers!!!:D:D:D:D:D

I'd imagine that running without them shouldn't be a problem once you tell the ECU that they're not there. You'd probably fail the MOT if you weren't LPG converted.
Isn't there something about a tune resistor to set the region in the Lucas 14cux. Check out this website Fuel injection there's great info on your engine.

go and get a S/S sport system. you know you want to. best move i made on my LSE and it passed the mot with non restrictive cats on her. on petrol
just think how happy you will be when you hear that proper sound.

hit over the head, put her in intensive care for a week or 2 , job done.
she has her two week rest and you get the exhaust you want

mmm, i'm not sure you would say that if you saw her!!! and if you did say it she'd prolly punch yer teeth in!!!:D:D:D:D:D:D

Put mine through on lpg a couple of months ago, full stainless exhaust with no cats and flew through emmissions test no problem :)

dont suppose you got a read out of the emissions did you?????:D

mines gems, they put gems on the 96 onwards i think, the early ones could have been lucas tho, i remember ther was a change over period but cant remember when!

am i right in thinking the diff between gems and lucas is the injection system?

Gav, I added some relevant links to my previous post. The Landywiki one looks useful. Theres an interesting point in the RPI one about running LPG with Gems, they say an ECU re-map is required to get it to run properly. Considering the amount of people who come on here with LPG problems they may have a point.

thats absoloute bollox spud, the ecu doesnt even know its on lpg!!! the lpg is seperate and rpi are a loads of crap(imho)

mine runs sweet on either fuel, most do but its the lpg ecu that needs setting up correctly in most cases or simple things like plugs/leads etc!!!

Hey, don't shoot the messenger :) :)
I only scanned down through it to see if it was relevant. You're probably right though, although I did buy a cam for my 3.9 from them and it seems pretty good so far (I have a problem when its hot but I noticed on rovacom the engine temp sensor is giving a cold reading all the time so thats probably the cause)

Not sure if I have the readout but will be going to the garage tomorrow to check progress and will try and get another one done when they finally get it to start.

Gav. I have found the original readout but rather than scan it in I have just taken the main parts for you.

Fuel Type - Liquified Petrolium Gas

idle speed - pass
CO - Max Limit = 3.50 Actual = 2.57 Result = pass
HC - Max Limit = 1200 Actual = 297 Result = pass
Smoke level - pass

Overall Result
Exhaust Emissions test - PASSED

the co is generous, the book says 2-3 i think
the hc is good!!!

so i should pass the mot without cats!! yipee, gonna get em banged out!!!

The GEMS system is the Lucas system, from Lucas/Sagem. The THOR system is Bosch which came about in 1999. The main difference was lower HP and more torque.
