Well, I can't get the rubber exhaust hanger onto the disco, not something I have done many times.

I take it its a brute force and ignorance job? Except its the one next to the gearbox and I can't get any real pressure onto it.

Anyway I ripped the earth out of a piece of T&E and used that in a coil, I was even going to solder it but I decided twisting it was enough.

Anyway, question was, will this pass the MOT?

Secondly, I took the air box out so I could get a good look at the holes which are forming around the wheel arch insert plastic-rivets, I found one area that was about 5 inches long and an inch wide that was totaly rust, so I took that out and rivteted a piece of metal onto it (MIG is away on loan) used heaps of seam sealer then to top it all off a layer of fibreglass, gave it a spray of paint and thats us... I don't see this as structural so will it pass?

Right I need to go and buy some bulbs for the rear reg plate lights, or some white LED's if I can find my supply of them.

normally, lubeing the rubber hanger with washing up liquid and pushing the exhaust up with a trolley jack works ok.

It isnt structural on that side - it is on the offside tho if it is within 8 inches of the brake servo. the replacement inner wing sections arent too bad to do, tho;).

FOOK... why didn't I think of that...

Oh well, its holding well now. I think it will be OK, I remembered the exhaust in my 90 is held on with HT fencing wire.

You don't say what model or year of disco, but I have just replaced my system and it was easy as all three exhaust hanger's unbolt on my disco.
I sprayed the bolts the day before with WD and they undid without any problem.
Re-assembly was just as easy by fitting the rubbers and hangers to the new exhaust on the ground.

Just ordered new middle and rear section exhaust for my 300.Whats the best way to go about fitting it.? Ive not done one before but Im trying to save a few quid as usual.Down pipe was done last year.

My system was a Cat back two part system.

First spray all the nuts & bolts the day before and again before u start, my old pipe was one piece so I had to get a grinder out to cut the pipe just before it goes over the axle.

When fitting, fit the front pipe first using exhaust sealing paste then do the rear part again using paste at the joint. Copper grease the bolts . When all assembled then do up the clamps.

It's an easy job and easier if u remove the N/S/R wheel first and leave that side on an axle stand. Job is 1 hour max. :)

Thanks Discool.1 hour job means it'll take me 3! :D

No way, unless u drink a lot of tea. It was the first time I have done the job on a Disco I was suprised how easy it was, (and i cleaned and wire brushed the bits and bobs) although I have done the job a few times on my old RR but that was a long time ago.

Let us know how u get on and any tips ok.

Regards

It really is easy Danny, as been said you'll probably find that the existing exhaust is all one piece so cut it after the middle box.

A little tip for you, BEFORE you try to fit the new system, assemble it on a table or similar to ensure that the two pipes fit together easily.

If you don't, you, might regret it - don't ask me how I know  :(
