I own a Land Rover Discovery I 200tdi and O have noticed that it consumes a lot of engine oil (I use a 20w50 and with a liter I travel about 200km). I often see white / blue smoke coming out of the exhaust (especially when the turbine kicks in). The car was recently serviced and has the head gasket overhauled last summer. What could cause such a large oil consumption? Also, do any of you have a digital version of the maintenance manual? Thank you all

The obvious likelihood is the Turbo seals, followed by valve stem seals and any oil leaks,
Rear main ? Front crankshaft seal ?
How many miles / kilometres? On the clock,

Stem seal failure becomes apparent on start up, where its been sitting up. You will get blue smoke on start up from the exhaust. If its turbo seals, the pipework after the turbo will be oily. Worth checking the intake for residue.

Leaks: Steam clean the engine and bell housing down and make it clean. Then after a few hundred Kms, check for oil leaks and stains. Could be leaking anywhere as its a land rover.

I would say if it is using 20/50 at that rate then you could have a pretty serious issue.

With engine hot and running, remove the oil filler cap then lay it in the oil filler hole but do not twist in just lay it there, if its stays there alll is good, if the cap tries to fly then it's rebuild time.
