Well I took it off to have a look but didn't have a replacement. So soaked in Gunk and blasted it clean with some Brake Cleaner. The EGR blanking kit is en route!!!

Is there anything else that I should 'clean' given the state of this?

Mine is a 10P engine with EGR installed and have never seen something like that. I clean the system every other year so that could be the result of a maintenance issue. Note also that oil is delivered to the intake as condensed vapour from the PCV via the intercooler and not the EGR, unless you're somehow getting oil at the exhaust ports. So it could also be a sign of piston ring wear (and therefore excessive blow-by gases), a faulty PCV or an issue with the oil separator.

The intercooler, without a doubt!
and the MAF, maybe.
Amazed you managed to clean it with what you used! I would only use contact cleaner!:):):)
