Hi, been reading loads of threads and watching loads of videos but can’t find anything that represents my issue.

I have 2012 RRS Autobiography and I have an alert on the dash informing me that the parking break is on press to release. However the parking break is not on and the manual override has not been used. When you flick the parking break switch it makes the usual engaging noise but does not engage and it’s almost like it tries to engage maybe 5 times before effectively giving up.

Took it to my local independent garage who told me that the epb needs to be replaced but I’m not convinced.

I wondered if anyone had any experience of this issue or any recommendations

Cheers

Firstly Welcome :).

How long have you had it? did it work?

Before chucking money at it you really need to read the codes, Did your garage do that or did they take an "educated" guess?
If you can get the code we could help much more.

I don't know much about them cos ours has never had an issue, but there is a force sensor in the big black magic box maybe that's the problem, or the switch that still thinks its on, or the, or the. So you can see how a fault code would help to narrow it down;)

As above, it needs the DTC's read to determine the next steps, I'd also suggest a 'common sense check' - make sure the release cable has not been snagged and held in the 'release' position, make sure the park brake actuation cables are connected to the shoes inside the rear disc/drum and the backing plates are not disintegrating. Usually if there is a force sensor fault, you end up with 'Park Brake Fault' on the dash and a flashing red (P) symbol.
When you say 'engage' do you mean the park brake will not apply or the internal cable latch is not latching up the O/S cable and the motor is just cycling the actuator rod between it's end stops?
