Hi everyone,

Currently have an 09 Freelander 2, it’s developed a new noise… it sounds like an electrical feedback noise but it’s certainly coming from under the bonnet. A consistent tone, almost like a flatline noise.

doesn’t sound like a worn belt or bearing, anyone any ideas??

Use a listening stick to see if you can narrow down where it's coming from.
Be careful you don't get caught up on the belt or any other moving parts!! That includes dangling clothing etc
Electrical parts in the alternator can whine as they start to fail

Does it change tone with engine speed?
Does the noise stop when the engine does?
Doesn’t appear until I rev the engine - it’s a consistent tone while it’s running until the engine is turned off, it continues for a second or so then stops after

Can you locate where it's coming from. Does it sound like it's coming from the front of the engine?
I'm thinking the throttle body gears have stripped, and that's the noise you can hear.

Sounds like the front of the engine so you could be onto it there!
