Engine warning light after EGR blank?

So I recently fitted the egr blank mod on my td4 in the hope it would help a little with some issues such as smoke from the exhaust and low power at low revs. After a quick test drive it did seem to have a little more low end power than before, but after driving a little more the next day the issue started.

When I took it above 50mph the engine warning light came on (the one to the right of the rev dial with the exclamation mark in the middle) and the car cut its power. It would still cruise at 50 but it was very slow accelerating. Ive been driving it for over a week like this (I have been on nightshifts the past 8 nights and havent had time to work on it). As long as I keep it to 45mph it is fine, but I will sometimes accidentally drift above that and the warning light will come back on and it cuts power. It is an intermittent problem as sometimes when I go down to 2nd gear for a slow corner or stop at a junction, the light goes off and it drives as normal.

I'm not exactly sure what the problem is and was wondering if anyone had an idea? I do own an OBDII diagnostic reader but it refused to connect to the car (I tried the reader on another car and it connected straight away so no issue with the reader). I suspect it may be the boost pressure sensor in the inlet manifold as there is now more air going through the system (not obstructed by the old egr valve) so that may affect it? From looking over this forum it seems like people often fit the egr blank at the same as they gibe the inlet manifold a thorough clean to help the airflow, and prehaps at the same time give the sensor a clean with some contact cleaner?

I should say I am a novice to diy mechanicing and only recently started doing it so excuse me if I am missing something obvious.

Yes, you should have taken the opportunity to clean the sensor, and preferably the inlet manifold too. What did you do with the vacuum pipes from the EGR valve solenoid? These often get left open to air, causing a vacuum leak which affects the turbo and possibly the brake boost.
